Berlin-based artist Erik Johansson is a self-taught photographer and retouching guru who likes to capture moments, not ideas. After photographing his various subjects, he layers them into creative, and almost eerily surreal pictures, which he insists they are not animations or indeed complex drawings. Any photo may consist of up to a hundred different images that Johansson mercilessly stitches together.
After his initial inspiration, he produces a rough sketch before sourcing his material and backdrops. He never uses stock photography. The whole process that can span a few days and up to several weeks. The end result is a series of breathtaking images that bend reality and capture the imagination.
